Pretty in Pink

August 21, 2009

Wow. Seems like yesterday my lovely, little niece was born. Today, Tanell is a beautiful young woman. A princess, but no ordinary princess. She is a multidimensional sixteen-year-old who recently played Beneatha Younger in A Raisin in the Sun, is a member of the National Honor Society, and was even named Police Commissioner for the Day. She doesn’t know what university she wants to attend yet, but one day soon she plans to transform the advertising world. Those ‘mad men’ of Madison Avenue better watch out for this one!

Here are photos from Tanell’s Sweet 16 photoshoot. Enjoy -

Wear your contacts AND your glasses – for my spectacled friends, I know your glasses are near and dear to you and part of your identity. I would never propose you totally go without them. However, I will suggest wearing contact lenses at least part of the time on your wedding day. Your eyes are the most beautiful part of your face, and to obscure them with eyewear in your wedding photos, means we miss a big part of you. 20 years into the future, I’m sure you would like to see what your face looked like without glasses, just as much as you’d want to show off your eyewear of choice. So for variety’s sake, let’s shoot some pictures with and without your glasses.

The forecast predicted rain, but Sabrina & Sean brought a little sunlight with them on their wedding day! More coming soon…

My mother was the first to leave the nest in her family and was horribly homesick while studying in London. There were no lines of communication easily accessible to them that wasn’t a major expense. There were no cellphones, email, twitter or facebook…just a simple telegram and the occasional call (when her family could travel to find a landline). This treasured snapshot of my granny Winnifred, aunt Erdine and uncles, Prince and Hammy in Barbados, made England feel more like “home.”

Today may be Easter, but It’s still chilly out. I guess Punxsutawney Phil was right. It seems we’ve had more than our share of brittle cold! Even the new yoshino cherry blossoms look a little like snowy branches.

Nevertheless, the cherry blossoms never wait for Mother Nature to cooperate! Like clockwork, their white petals peak the second week of April, quickly shedding to leave behind gorgeous green leaves. They usher in the big Hanami Festival in honor of their pinker, showier sisters!

So do like the Japanese do, and celebrate the newness and beauty of these colorful, yet fleeting Spring moments. MINNA FOTO will help by offering a special Brooklyn Botanical Garden/Hanami Cherry Blossom Festival discount through May 10th!

We believe in new beginnings – new engagements, new additions to the family, changes in thought & perspective, another year of life… These should be documented with new photographs. So book your Engagements, Family Portraits, & Personal Portraits, especially if you don’t take them often. There will be warm days ahead!

Wenbert & Eudine’s niece, Azzaya, wanted to visit NYC so much, she mailed them a little cutout of herself. Like terrific tour guides, they included “flat-Azzaya,” in their globetrotting expeditions around town!

214Hey folks,

This is just a reminder now is a great time to schedule your Spring Engagement Sessions…especially if you’re trying to catch the Cherry Blossoms at the Botanical Gardens (which hang around for roughly 2-3 three weeks in mid-April to May.) Ditto for those who would like Portrait Sessions, too.

I’m drawing up my schedule now. Those who have booked, of course, have first priority. If you’re interested in weekend dates, let me know, as they get taken quickly. Please keep in mind it’s best to head out early to beat the crowds. I do suggest mid-week sessions if you and your fiance are both available, since there are usually less visitors filling the gardens and more time to take terrific shots!

(Yeah, I know, it’s still very chilly out, but that will change soon.)

Cheers, Michelle

It doesn’t take very much to get folks outside after a long winter. The promise of sixty degrees is enough for friends to gather for fun and hijinks.
